Leo Gagnon for Portsmouth City Council Profile

I was born in Newburyport Massachusetts in 1966, went through the public school system and joined the Air force immediately out of High School in 1984. After being honorably discharged from the military and returning to New England I chose to move to Portsmouth, for all the charm that I remembered from my youth in Newburyport. Newburyport had become a product of gentrification and was now consumed with “carpet baggers” and professionals from Metro Boston. I worked for Margaritas Mexican Restaurant and watering Hole, a locally owned regional restaurant chain, for 10 + years. I did everything from bussing and dishwashing to managing and eventually marketing and public relations for the cooperate office.

Through my travel for Margaritas I met my wife Lori 9 years ago this month. After a short stint in Concord and then a private restaurant venture on York Beach, I returned to Portsmouth with my future wife. I took on management roles with Jumpin Jays Fish Cafe and Radici Italian Restaurant. While enjoying the hospitality industry I pursued my Real Estate license. After acquiring my Real Estate license I chose to return to bartending to focus on my Real Estate career.

I consider myself an advocate for the working class service industry and affordable housing. I am interested in maintaining a deliberative participatory government in Portsmouth and following the Master Plan. I also believe in smart, sustainable growth that benefits the entire community and preserves our economic diversity. I will continue to champion for the people through my volunteering on the Steering Committee for Portsmouth Listens and spreading housing education through the Workforce Housing Coalition.

I have attached links to various articles and hope you take the time to view them and learn more about me. I am a people person and very approachable. Please don’t hesitate to give me a call on my cell phone anytime to ask questions or voice your concerns. I can be reached at (207) 451-7280.
